An outline of my film magazine and its purpose

My film magazine is made to be very eye-catching, appeal to all audiences of different ages and genders. The front cover includes a simplistic look, this is to catch the readers’ attention and intrigue them to read my magazine. My magazine will include a range of contests they would be eligible to enter, celebrity interviews and much more.

The theme of my film magazine is Horror. I chose this theme because that it was most people voted for in the questionnaire that I had initially given out. Horror movies also interest me even though they aren’t my favourite genre. The article I created was an interview with the main star Sandra Escacena of my favourite horror film ‘Veronica’.

I chose a simple cover because too much going on can confuse the reader and if the one picture is enticing enough then they are most likely to buy it. The cover of the magazine is the first thing the buyer sees, therefore you have to make it intriguing. I think my magazine cover is intriguing because it has a beautiful mysterious woman on the front and readers are most likely to pick up a magazine that aesthetically pleases their eyes.

The purpose of my magazine is to inform horror film readers about the latest and scariest films. It is also to allow them to be eligible for contests to win free trips to places like a haunted house during Halloween time, when sales would most likely increase. This could also give readers advice on what horror films to watch it could also help readers if they are writing a review on a certain film my magazine may have talked about.

 

Initial research for a new film magazine. 

The film magazine i have decided to analyse is Total Film and was issued in February 2001. 

What does the cover look like?

The cover of the film magazine has a picture of Catherine Zeta-Jones she is on the cover because this issue of the magazine is focusing on sex scenes in film and how if effects women and because she is known for fulfilling steamy roles, she is on the cover. There is also subheadings about some of the different articles that are included in this issue of the magazine. The picture of Catherine is up close and intimate, to portray the roles she often takes on.  It appears as if she's naked because the top part of her chest that is visible, is bare, this suggests nudity. 

What is featured on the cover page?                                                             

Featured on the front of the magazine is text giving the reader information about what is included inside before they open it. There is also text along the top reading "NEW PICS! The Mummy Returns and Harry Potter". This may entice the reader, the reason for this being they may be interested in either of those films and want to see exclusive pictures from the set and behind the scenes.     

Does it have a centre page spread?

The magazine does have a centre page spread with information from the interview with the actress who is on the cover. The actress Catherine Zeta-Jones is talking about what it’s like doing sex scenes, the different actors she has worked with and how they performed with her, past work. 

Does it have film reviews?

The magazine has dedicated 44 pages on reviewing and rating films, videos and DVD's. This area of the magazine front page also features a small list of some of the films that have been rated, this is to intrigue the reader because they may see a film they really like and want to hear other people's opinion, or they may see a film on that list that they want to go and see but want to read reviews about if first because they don't want to waste their money. 

Does it have interviews?

The magazine does include interviews with different actors have worked on films related to the main subject matter of the magazine. This gives the readers other peoples' perspective and point of view, rather than just Catherine Zeta-Jones. These interviews include an insight on what it's like to work with popular actors such as Brad Pitt. Articles like this would interest the reader because, during the time of 2001 he was very popular with the female audience.

The magazine not only includes adverts for upcoming films, but they also include adverts for different products such as perfume, watches and make up. These are the things you would typically see in a beauty magazine, the similarities between this film magazine and a beauty magazine is that they both include an interview with a celebrity and gossip.
